Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I have conducted literature review in international business and strategic management and done case studies to build up new interdisciplinary theoretical frameworks that address research questions related to the sustainability of Asian multinational enterprises. These questions are organized into three main areas, including 1) foreign direct investment and its legitimacy, 2) responsible business conducts, governance and monitoring, and 3) stakeholder management and social impact investment. In particular, these questions are as follow. To what extent existing international business theories can guide multinational companies to successfully address broader corporate social responsibility and sustainability demands from the host country? To what extent, theories from different social sciences (e.g., economics, sociology, and political science) should be integrated into existing international business theories? How and to what extent should multinational companies monitor and control their global value chain to achieve legitimacy in different geographic jurisdictions? How should multinational companies manage interactions among stakeholders (e.g., business, government, non-governmental organization, and society) and invest to achieve sustainability in the new global environment?

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The research progress for FY2018 went smoothly according to the initial plan. The research work as planned for FY2019 has also been started.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The research work for FY2019 will continue from the FY2018. I will complete conceptual research papers based on theoretical frameworks developed in FY2018. During FY2019, I will also continue to collect company and environment data to test the hypotheses developed in these conceptual papers.
