Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During this past year, I have conducted research on the policies of both Asian and Western bilateral agencies for educational development in Cambodia. As a result, I was able to give one invited lecture at Roskilde University in Denmark and publish one research article about the early findings of my research in an international journal which is refereed. I was invited to give the lecture at Roskilde to present my findings about traditional and emerging donors which might be of interest to researchers in Denmark who study education in developing nations and do consulting for DANIDA and other multilateral projects for educational development in South and Southeast Asia.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I think that this research project is progressing smoothly. In this year I was able to gather and analyze policy documents from multiple multilateral and bilateral aid agencies to examine their policies and the policy discourse related to aid for education in Cambodia. In addition to this I was able to present preliminary findings in both the guest lecture and the research article publication. I am finding that it may be necessary to visit the headquarters of some of these organizations such as the EU and UNESCO in order to learn more about the global policy agenda which these organizations have toward Education for All and how that might affect the movement in Cambodia.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the coming year, beginning this summer, my intention is to undertake a research trip to the US and Europe. It will first be necessary to visit leading scholars in the field of educational development in the US to reacquaint myself with the latest theories in the field. Subsequently, I hope to visit EU, UNESCO and the headquarters of a few bilateral aid agencies in Europe. I feel that local agency staff in Cambodia are just performing project management and have insufficient understanding of how the projects fit within their organization or nation's overall mission, policy, or agenda. It will be necessary for me to access more of their policy documents and talk to agency staff which have more policy-making power than local staff.

Causes of Carryover |
My intention was to use the full amount from last year, but in the end there was no need for the small amount of 37,834 in the end. Therefore, I am grateful that it has been rolled over to this year, as I am sure that I will be short on funds for the extensive research travel which I must carry out this year.
