今日、戦争を系統的流れの中で位置付け、歴史学習として学ぶだけではなく、かつて肉親や地域の人々の語りが物語っていた切実感、臨場感も含めた戦争に対する豊かな感性的認識が必要とされている。それは、平和や戦争に対する観念的、一般的な知識の獲得に終始するのではなく、戦争のより具体的諸相に迫る教育が求められているということである。そうした意味で、継承的アーカイブである戦争遺跡や戦争体験の「語り」は注目すべき題材であり、教科教育や総合的な学習の時間、学校行事など多様な教育実践の中でより発展的に活用され得る教材である。
