Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This year involved the completion of over 60 interviews with administrators, academics and students who have been involved in the A3 Foresight and CAMPUS Asia programs. Interviews were conducted at 9 participating universities, and also at MEXT and NIAD-QE. To complete my analysis I utilized transcription services and purchased a number of relevant books to help contextualize my work by way of literature review. I presented preliminary research findings at the at the 21st Annual Meeting of the Japan Association of Higher Education Research in June 2018 in Tokyo, Japan, and I also presented and did a poster session at the Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE) Newer Researchers Conference and Annual Conference, Newport, UK in December 2018. In both cases the title of my presentation was ‘Higher Education regional cooperation in Northeast Asia: Comparing policy ideas at Japanese universities’. In addition, I published one paper related to my research in the international peer reviewed journal Higher Education entitled “Dynamics of Higher Education Research Collaboration and Regional Integration in Northeast Asia: a Study of the A3 Foresight Program”, Higher Education, Springer Netherlands, February 7, 2019.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
As a result of cooperative research participants and acceptance to a number of conferences, the research is progressing smoothly and according to schedule.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Going forward, I intend to complete my analysis and writing up of my research findings. It is my plan to disseminate this research by way of a number of academic papers and a scholarly book. I plan to purchase more books to complete a comprehensive literature review and may utilize funds to attend conferences this academic year.
|
Causes of Carryover |
While I did not spend 2,880 JPY in FY2018, I plan to use this and the remaining KAKENHI funds for a number of useful purposes in FY2019. This includes books, conference participation and remaining transcription fees.
