Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the past fiscal year, data gathered in the previous year through questionnaires and interviews was analyzed and processed. These resulted in two conference papers published and one poster presentation, with one journal paper accepted for publication during the new fiscal year. During the courses taught in this past academic year, more data was gathered in several multicultural classrooms, at the local institution, with the focus on cultural differences and studying computer literacy, as well as similarities and differences between teaching and learning social sciences and natural sciences. At the same time, several attempts were made to visit universities within Japan who teach computer literacy classes to international students. Unfortunately, participation in these classes was not possible, mostly due to the fact that teachers in charge declined the attempts to observe the classes or interview students/teachers. More of the latest research in multicultural education was found and studied, highlighting the state of the art of multicultural computer literacy education, as well as various aspects pertaining to teaching natural sciences as opposed to teaching social sciences. During the last year of this research project, the work will continue with gathering more data and continuously monitoring recent developments in teaching computer literacy and related subjects in multicultural environments. The adaptive model of teaching computer literacy in multicultural environments will be finalized.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the new fiscal year, further attempts will be made to visit high degree institutions within Japan, where computer literacy is taught. These will help acquire more data regarding how teaching computer literacy in multicultural environments is conducted. Both students and teaching staff may be interviewed before and after computer literacy courses take place, in particular those with high percentages of international students. The data gathered within Japan will be notably useful, considering the particularities of multicultural education at Japanese institutions. Finally, the adaptive model proposed for teaching computer literacy in multicultural environments will be concluded.
