Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In Fiscal Year 2022 I performed accurate simulations of binary neutron star mergers for investigating the effect of a new type of equations of state that involve a quark-hadron crossover at higher densities, rather than a first-order phase transition to quark matter, which was most frequently assumed in the past, but which is probably less realistic. We have found interesting results on the relations between observable gravitational radiation emitted after the merger and some properties of the equation of state. These are reported in our publication on Physical Review Letters. Our findings pave the way to realistically enable the scientific community to distinguish crossover equations of state from other types of equations of state via observations performed through third-generation gravitational wave detectors.
In addition to the above, I have performed simulations of binary neutron star mergers endowed with magnetic fields, differing in intensity and spatial structure. However, I have not been able to secure computational resources large enough to be able to employ resolutions high enough to achieve satisfactory results for the combined effects of these new equations of state with the development of seed magnetic fields.
