Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Our primary effort this year has been to understand the physical processes underlying the mean free path for electron scattering in CdTe, as measured from electron holography amplitude data. In additional to holography measurements, we also employed complementary diffraction and energy-filtering measurements to help deconvolute the various contributions. These contributions include hardware specific factors (e.g. aperture collection angles, fringe contrast) which must be carefully considered; as well as the fundamental electronic (e.g. plasmon) and nuclear (e.g. TDS) scattering processes in the specimen. This has been a fruitful research topic, and a new manuscript is close to completion.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
We have made good progress this year. We have optimized the specimen preparation process further, and established a collaboration with a university in Sendai to try a novel quantitative method to assess lattice damage. We also acquired numerous electron holograms from CdTe samples, as well as reference samples, and collected complementary diffraction and energy-filtering data. Furthermore, we utilized the Atomic Scale Electromagnetic Field Analysis Platform to acquire CdTe holography data at 1.2MV.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Current activity and short term goal is to complete a manuscript that is currently at an advanced stage of preparation. Following that, we will shift our analysis to looking a functional devices. This is in line with the original plan documented in the original proposal.
|
Causes of Carryover |
I didn't yet order some some of the substrates that I intended to order (MEMS chips for performing functional device measurements). The manufacturer was a little slow to respond to my queries, and it became close to the end of the fiscal year, so I decided to defer the order until early in next fiscal year.
