Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We continued this year focusing on transport assignment models with shared modes. We require this as a basis to better understand fairness implications of fare structure changes. Efforts have been focused on two type of services: Firstly transit services withe feeder services and secondly transit and free floating bicycles. For the former we modeled a radial city in which a direct mode can either replace transit or support it by serving stations and therefore allowing people better access. We showed the impact of fare changes for travelers, direct mode and transit operators. Regarding free floating bicycles, we continued our approach of modelling choices focusing on the effect of information about the available location of bicycles. This will help understanding system optimal fare policies.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Compared to the proposal our focus has slightly shifted with less focus on application to real test study. This has two reasons. Firstly, we realize that assignment models including shared transport require more work than initially envisaged. Secondly, setting up the data agreement is delayed. In conclusion, we are slightly delayed with some aspects but believe have made more progress in some other areas that we initially envisaged to be on the periphery of this project.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Both of the above research topics have been presented at conferences. In the final year of this project we aim to advance this work and submit the results to journals. For the work on free-floating bicycles in particular we will estimate the effects of different fare structures. We will further pay specific attention to the term "fair" in the project title and discuss "fair fares" in the context of "Mobility as a service". We will discuss this for specific population groups.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to some part of data analysis being slightly delayed, some expenditures are also carried forward to this fiscal year. We therefore hope to use the remaining funding from this year also in this year.
