Outline of Annual Research Achievements

高プロトン伝導性高分子の分野は、ミクロなナノ構造とマクロな物性であるプロトン伝導度の相関をほとんど議論できていなかった。本研究ではその議論を可能とする基盤技術の創成に成功したのが主な成果である。アプローチ方法としては、ライオトロピック液晶性を利用することで、高分子構造に長距離秩序を自発的に持たせた点である。これによって構造化と高プロトン伝導性の双方の相関を議論することができるようになった。
これまでに、剛直な主鎖を有する芳香族系スルホン化ポリイミドは、組織構造が湿度(RH)変化可能な斜入射小角X線散乱法(GISAXS)によって緩いラメラ構造が得られることを明らかにしてきた。最終年度は側鎖に親水性側鎖を導入することで、加湿下においてさらなる含水化を試み、組織構造がどのような影響を受けるかを調べた。GIASXSの結果から、組織構造はラメラ構造であるが、これまでの10種類以上の誘導体と比較して散乱強度が相対的に向上した。課題であった高プロトン伝導性の起源の解明として、主鎖が二量化した状態のバイレイヤー構造を示唆するπ-πスタックに帰属される新たな散乱が観測された。このことから、スルホン化ポリイミド主鎖はラメラ構造の中で二本鎖で一組であり、側鎖のスルホン酸基は親水層に伸びた構造をとっていると考えられる。主鎖がペアになることで、酸濃度は二倍になるため、高いプロトン伝導性を説明することができる。この構造的な情報から、高プロトン伝導性の起源を解明することができた。
