Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In FY2019 I have investigated the ionic migration in perovskite oxides as a function of the coordination spheres and partial covalence. I could derive a quantum mechanical principle showing the difference in ionic migration between pairs of cations. The most relevant was the difference in ionic migration between Sr and La. This result can have direct implication on the Sr-segragation which is a major degradation mechanism for the electrode surfaces of SOFCs. The model material in our study is LSGM with allows the comparison anion / cation; on the A-site earth alkaline / rare earth; and on the B-site earth alkaline / post transition element. We have demonstrated that the ionic mobility is in the following order: O >> Sr > La >> Mg > Ga.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
In FY 2019 I had 2 invited talks on international events and 2 contributed talks at international conferences. My results were well accepted by the SSI community. So far 2 manuscripts have been published and a this one is in preparation.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
During the third year of the project, I will focus on degradation of proton conducting oxides.
|
Causes of Carryover |
In FY 2020 I will use the grant budget for software support, consumable cost like electricity for the computers, support of the computers.
