Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Neither nitrogen concentration in logs or the pH of the logs correlated significantly with the log-to-shiitake TF of total or exchangeable Cs-133. However, for one of the shiitake strains, we found that higher concentration of nitrogen in logs correlated with a lower log-to-shiitake TF for total Cs-133 (r = -0.833, P<0.05) but not for exchangeable Cs-133 (r= -0.543, P>0.05). This observation was not seen in either of the other two shiitake strains.
To optimise culturing shiitake in vitro, we used two different shiitake strains and a combination of the two strains (i.e., three “strains” in total) and grew all three “strains” under the best four culturing conditions we established previously. We need to continue to optimise the culturing conditions further to produce full size fruiting bodies.
