Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では海洋における生物の多様化機構の解明にむけて、主に固有種によって構成される深海化学合成生物群集のプランクトン幼生の分散、海域集団間の連結性および遺伝的多様性との相関、さらに固有種の成長に伴う内部構造の変化の解明を実施し、包括的に深海生物の多様化機構を明らかにすることを目的とし、概ね目的を達成できたと考えている。
最終年度である本年度は、コロナ禍が収束していれば国際学会等においてこれまでの研究成果を報告し、新たに得られた知見の普及に努めることを予定していたが、昨年度の引き続き渡航制限などの影響で開催地にて国際学会等に参加することはできず、オンライン参加あるいは学術論文として成果を公表し、可能な範囲でこれまでに得られたデータを補完するデータを取得した。具体的には、深海熱水噴出域から初となるエビヤドリムシ類の新種を報告し、熱水噴出域における生活史相互作用について検討したほか、海外の研究者と協力し深海化学合成生物群集の群集レベルおよび種内の海域集団レベルの類似性あるいは連結性を明らかにした。近年注目されつつある「音風景」についても、固有種が多く分布する深海熱水噴出域における特徴を明らかにした。音は海洋中で広く均質に伝わる要素であることから、広い海洋の中で生物が熱水噴出域という特殊な環境を見出すために利用されているのかもしれない。また、深海化学合成生物群集に固有のオハラエビ類の一分類群には分布海域に関わらず繁殖生態に季節性があることを明らかにした。生物の海域集団間をつなぐ流れは時間とともに変動することから、繁殖生態の季節性の有無は集団間の連結性の維持あるいは断絶にも大きく影響すると予想され、今後、海洋物理モデルを用いたシミュレーション等との統合的解析から深海生物の多様化機構を明らかにすることなどが期待できる。
