Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We have shown that ATP produced by active mitochondria regulate liquid phase separation (LPS) of the presynaptic release machinery (cytosol, synaptic vesicles pools and active zone components). Changes in presynaptic fluid phase can also triggers the translocation of vesicles and postsynaptic receptors from one release site to another. Human iPSC-derived neurons from Parkinson's and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis patients also showed reduction in ATP concentration and LPS. In vitro LPS assay also demonstrated the ATP concentration-dependent condensation/decondensation of SNCA, TAU and TDP43.
