Outline of Final Research Achievements

Using cyclic polyols such as 1,5-anhydroglucitol, various gallate derivatives (polyphenol) were chemically and systematically synthesize and find beneficial compounds with α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and antioxidant activity. In addition, the structure-activity relationship of the synthetic compound library was examined.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまで、環状ポリオール類の没食子酸誘導体（ポリフェノール）について化学的かつ系統的に合成研究された研究報告はない。また、合成された各種ポリフェノール類には糖尿病の治療に有効なα-グルコシダーゼ阻害活性やアンチエイジング効果があるとされる抗酸化活性があることも見い出した。これらの研究成果は、今後の医薬品の開発研究に貢献できると考えられる。
