| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The trend in the incidence of surgical site infections (SSIs) in healthcare facilities participating in the national SSI surveillance program were analyzed. The result indicated that continuation of SSI surveillance lead to the decrease of SSI incidence.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
手術後の合併症として最も重大なもののひとつである手術部位感染の発生を低減することは、医療の質向上・患者の医療に対する満足度・国民総医療費の節減の観点から推進されるべきである。その方法は様々であるが、サーベイランスによりその発生を低減できることが示唆されてきた。我々が行った、日本の大規模なサーベイランスデータの精緻な解析により、サーベイランスに参加し続けることが手術部位感染発生の減少につながることが明らかになった。
