Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Our research in 2023 fiscal year was focused mainly on the following aspects. First, we continued using wearable IMUs to estimate vital signs including respiratory rate and heart rate for both human and dog. Second, physiological data (EEG, ECG and GSR) collected from wearables were used for recognition of various emotional states including arousal, valence and drowsiness. Deep learning models of CNN and LSTM were utilized for emotion. Third, we further enhanced the open wearable platform that enables more types of wearables such as EEG and EOG to be integrated into the platform, and effectively manages these devices with a GUI control and visualization panel. Our research achievements were published in IEEE conferences (iThing 2023 and CPSCom 2023) as well as international journals.
