Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project has examined the post-war history of the Taiwanese “Youthful Nationals Generation” from the perspective of political changes in East Asia, using the methods of social history research to explore the characteristics of this generation and its importance in regional history. Among the Taiwanese born in the 1930s who received education in Japanese colonial schools, the study focused on individuals with higher education degrees and tracked their educational and employment paths. Simultaneously, local investigations spanning Taiwan, the United States, and Japan were conducted, along with the transcription and database creation of complex interview recordings in a mixture of Taiwanese, Japanese, Chinese, and English. Additionally, relevant documents such as educational policies were collected and analyzed. Through this, the dynamics of the East Asian Cold War system and its impact on the life courses of the generation have been elucidated.
