Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study comprises three elements. First, to understand regional art festivals (Triennale) held in isolated, depopulated, and aging regions in Japan as a tourism phenomenon. Second, to clarify the actual situation of art tourism based on case studies. Third, to examine the possibility of deepening and expanding art tourism. In this study, ethnographic fieldwork was conducted in the Setouchi area. Consequently, we were able to grasp the touristic aspect of the regional art festivals and the diversity of the touristic aspects that occurred in each region where the festivals were held. The data analysis provided the first step to discuss the theoretical aspects of art tourism.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
