Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In the last financial year, I was able to publish my monograph titled 'Independent Filmmaking across Borders in Contemporary Asia' (Amsterdam University Press). The publication has been greatly enhanced by the Kaken project, which is about Sinophone cultural articulations. Secondly, I was able to travel to several important international conferences in Asia and Europe presenting on border-crossing cinema in contemporary Asia.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

I was able to publish my monograph titled 'Independent Filmmaking across Borders in Contemporary Asia' in November 2019, which is a bit earlier than expected. At the same time, I also understand that the publication is only my achievement of a specific stage. I will be able to explore other related topics in Sinophone cultural production until the ending stage (2021) of this Kaken project.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

I have several directions to move forward from now on. First, I will work on translating my English monograph into Japanese. Currently I am working on the proposal. Secondly, regarding Sinophone cinemas and cultural productions, I will start to work on one or two journal articles dealing with the Chinese independent films. Thirdly, I will actively seek opportunities to present my research output through alternative channels such as online conferences, given the serious conditions of the Covid pandemic. Fourthly, I will also find chances to conduct field trips to domestic film archives and libraries, when travel restrictions are lessened.

Causes of Carryover

Mostly because I was not aware of the minor difference. Will be careful next time.
