Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examines the use of "Hikiuta" in "The Tale of Genji", a literary work of the Heian period in Japan. In this study, we examined the technique of "Hikiuta" in the beginning of "The Tale of Genji", including some parts that have not been pointed out before. In particular, as the Hikiuta of "Haru ya kinuru" near the end of the Aoi volume, we found a new Hikiuta, which has not been pointed out before. We were able to newly point out "Miyakoniha mirubeki kimi mo nakimono wo tsune wo omoite haru yakinuran" a poem from the ""Sanjo-udaijin Shu" and "Kanesuke Shu". In addition, the response of Aoi no Ue to Hikaru Genji in the Wakamurasaki scroll to the line, "Towanu wa tsurakimono" in the conversational text, revealed that a specific Hikiuta should not be assumed.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
