Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the academic year 2019, I made considerable progress on this project. A major research result was the publication of a journal article, as follows: Daniel McKay. "Other Ways to Treat an Animal: Natural Horsemanship and the Ethnic Other." Journal of Postcolonial Writing 55:5 2019: 656-669. In addition, I sent book proposals to many book publishers in the UK and the USA. Many were complimentary of my project, but it was difficult, overall, to make the leap from gaining the publisher's attention to proceeding to a book contract. Even so, I managed to get useful input from foreign scholars when I visited institutions on a short-term basis. The following three visits were helpful to me: * Visiting Fellow (for a public lecture), Centre for English Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, 16 / 11 / 2019 to 23 / 11 / 2019: https://www.jnu.ac.in/sllcs/ces. * Visiting Fellow (for public lectures), Research Center for Culture, Arts, and Humanities, University of Santo Tomas, 29 / 01 / 2020 to 11 / 02 / 2020: http://www.ust.edu.ph/research/research-center-for-culture-arts-and-humanities/. * International Visiting Fellow (for research & public lectures), Warwick Institute of Advanced Study, University of Warwick, 01 / 03 / 2020 to 31 / 03 / 2020, https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/cross_fac/ias/schemes/ivf/. I have maintained communications with the hosts of these institutes and so this networking offers the possibility of long-term international research support.
