Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Presently, data on the relative accuracy of Rasch difficulty data has been collected and analyzed. The data is from 1000 items. Three sets of fictitious tests of different lengths were produced from this data. Then the difficulty values of test items relative their criterion values has been established. The second part of the KAKEN research looks at the difficult of the first 5,000 words of English. The first part of the research meant establishing the list which fits best with the difficulty level of a sample of words from Japanese university learners. This has been established. Presently, we are completing the writing of items. for the first 5000 words of English. Then these items will be uploaded to on online testing site (vocableveltest.org) which I designed.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

I am fortunate to have access to leaders of the vocabulary testing field who provide me with support and insight. I have funds provided from KAKEN. I have collaborated with other researchers to ensure the testing system was created efficiently.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

I hope to complete the production of the items by the end of June. With piloting in June and final data collection from July.

I plan to submit a paper on the use of Rasch linking and anchoring this Calendar year. I plan to submit a paper on the difficultly of the first 5000 words of English this academic year alone with the list itself.

Causes of Carryover

I plan to use the remaining funds to primarily fund the creation of the test items and a bank of possible answers, and then to fund data collection. I hope to finish test creation by June.
I hope to start data collection from July.
