Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examines the development of diplomatic thought around Japan as an "economic power" (from the 1970s to the early 1990s) from the following four perspectives. (1) The emergence of the term "kokueki (national interest)," (2) the shift in the discourse framing Japan's ODA, and (3) the demographic perspective as an undercurrent of Japanese development cooperation, and (4) the usefulness of the concept of "foreign engagement". Most of these results have been presented in papers and conference reports.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
