Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this academic year, I have examined three classes of reference-dependent choice procedures. In the first class, reference alternative is used to eliminate alternatives. I characterize three variants in this family, where the variants differ from each other by the elimination method employed. The results has been published. In the second class, reference alternative is used in inclusive shortlisting procedures, where variants can be differentiated by the properties of the shortlist. I show that the shortlisting property matters whereas the aggregation properties do not matter. The results have been summarized in an article. In the third class, reference alternative influences behavior either in a direct way to boost the attractiveness of itself or subtly through the lens of loss aversion. I show that these two models are distinguishable while they are normally treated as equivalent in the literature. I also established the properties that can render two models equivalent. The results are summarized in an article. The primary goal of the coming academic year is to present the second and the third works in conference and workshops, and to revise the manuscripts according to the feedbacks.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The research progress is rather smoothly as planned. The characterizations of three classes of choice procedures rely on different methods. That is, the characterizations not only provide economic insights, but is also meaningful instrumentally. In addition, the results I achieved this year also lead to new research topics. Nevertheless, I have not been able to present as much as planned due to the pandemic. In the following academic year, I plan to present more virtually.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The primary job of the following academic year is to present results in workshop and conferences, and to revise the manuscripts according to the feedbacks. I have two unpublished manuscript under revision. I planned to take advantage of virtual conferences and workshops this year to present both works. I plan to publish at least 1 of the articles and preferably both. In the former case, the unpublished article should be submitted.
|
Causes of Carryover |
In the last fiscal year, planned conferences and workshops travels were canceled due to COVID. In turn, article submission was postponed because of delayed comments from conferences and workshops. The major expenses in the next fiscal year are fees for conferences and workshops, language editing services, article submission fee, and open access fee.
