Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
* Planning started on an international collaboration involving researchers from Japan, the UK, the US, and Southeast Asia who are interested in the Mekong sub-region. * Kakenhi used to gather researchers together for the British Association of Japan Studies (BAJS) conference in Sheffield, September 2018. A panel was presented in addition to researchers workshopping shared collaboration in the future. * Funds also supported time spent in the national archives of the UK for archive document research. * The kakenhi supported my presentation at an international conference in Indonesia. This was for the purpose of not only presenting on the panel but also taking the first steps into broadening my research into the Mekong to other sub-regional growth zones in Southeast Asia.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
* Efforts at collaboration have been successful and will be continuing into 2019. * In terms of practical outputs, the team of Mekong interested researchers have been approached by Routledge to put together an edited book on their topic. This is currently being developed into a proposal. * The team of researchers will be meeting again at the AAS conference in Bangkok, July 2019.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
* As above, future collaboration will be pursued in relation to a Routledge book project in addition to additional panel conference presentation work. * In relation to my sole activity, two additional book volumes are being developed: (1) an edited volume on Myanmar in 2020, (2) a single author text on Japan{s foreign policy relations with the Mekong from a Critical perspective.
