| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As mentioned in the research plan for FY2018, this year I mainly focus on the theoretical analysis (research objective 1) by building the theoretical framework with human capital formation.
In order to show that how substitutability in human capital formation influences the inequality in education, I incorporate a model of self-selection in education where individuals are heterogeneous in initial wealth and innate ability. The results show that any increase in the substitutability of innate ability for initial wealth reduces educational inequality. The research paper which summarizes the results is published by Economics Bulletin.
Assessing parenting practices is another essential part of this research. Now I am focusing on the CFPS (China Family Panel Studies), which is a nationally representative survey of Chinese families and contains necessary micro-data of this research.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
As mentioned above, for the theoretical part of this research, a theoretical model is built and the research paper which summarizes the theoretical results is accepted and published by Economics Bulletin.
Additionally, the preparation for the empirical work of the next years is also necessary. I have been looked up related information among a series of micro-databases.For the empirical part of this research, collecting micro-data and preparation for the empirical analysis are both ongoing.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In FY2019, this research will keep on collecting data, not only micro but also macro-data in provincial level. For the micro-data, I will also check whether other databases across countries are available. For macro-data, deep research about the yearbook is necessary. Once the preparation of data is done, I will start the empirical analysis of parenting practices immediately.

| Causes of Carryover |
Since the new version of STATA is not released in 2018, the expense on software updating is saved.In Fy2019, research funds will be used for purchasing material and supplies, books, traveling and other objectives.
