The classic human capital theory considers human capital formation as the production of cognitive and non-cognitive skills. Like traditional goods production,human capital formation involves multiple inputs such as material resources, innate abilities, and parental investment.
In general, this study investigates how the relationship between different inputs involved in human capital formation influences education inequality. In particular, this study mainly consists of the following two aspects.
1) Empirically investigating the relationship between the inputs of human capital formation, that is, are they substitutes or complements? This study mainly focuses on public education expenditure and parental investment.
2) Theoretically analyzing how the relationship between the inputs of human capital formation affects education inequality.
Overall, both research objectives have been accomplished. The articles that summarize the results of these two aspects have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
