Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we conducted basic surveys and developed diagnostic assessment for Japanese children at-risk of reading and writing difficulties in English. As a result, we developed in-class assessment of basic English literacy and phonological awareness that can be conducted within one class hour at elementary and middle school. Next, we established two-stage screening process that consists of capital-letter writing and basic word-reading/spelling tasks. Finally, we further examined utilities of the task based on the results of children with developmental dyslexia. Based on these findings, we laid the foundation of early identification and appropriate intervention for elementary and middle school students with a risk of reading and writing difficulties in English.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
