Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this year, we continue to work on two-dimensional (2D) materials studies to investigate the doping effect to the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), the growth of high quality TMDCs by adding salt, the optoelectronic properties of TMDCs, the optical inter band transition of twisted bilayer graphene, and the intercalation of metal chlorides into bilayer graphene. With the support of this budget, we have published 5 papers.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
We have proposed the design and plan of microscope modification to generate vortex beam, but the estimated price given by the microscope manufacture company is beyond the up limit of the budget. We have underestimated the cost of this modification. That is the main reason to delay the progress of this project. Even though, the support of this budget is still beneficial to my research on 2D materials and has deepen my knowledge to the electron vortex beam.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The generation of electron vortex beam in TEM is a big plan to the microscope. The physics of using high angular momentum electron beam to excite electrons from the orbitals is very interesting and worthy for further studies. More larger grant is needed to practically create the electron vortex beam in a TEM.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the COVID-19 and work from home regulation, there is still some residual funding that has not been fully utilized.
