Outline of Final Research Achievements

In planning radiotherapy for prostate cancer, using Magnetic resonance (MR), which provides better contrast in soft tissue than computed tomography (CT) images will be able to concentrate to the dose of radiation to malignant tumors and reduce damage to surrounding normal tissue. However, in order to create a radiation therapy planning based on MR images alone, the dose distribution has not yet been verified. In this study, we propose to search for and validate the materials that can be used for the phantoms.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で取り組んだC Tファントム作成に関する知見は,磁気共鳴(MR)画像だけを使って放射線治療計画を立てる(MR-only simulation)際の線量分布の精度を高める一助になっていく。MR-only simulationが確立されることで本国で罹患率の高い前立腺癌患者に安全で正確な放射線治療を提供することに繋がっていく。また,研究過程で別途開発したMRファントムは,ヒトの全身の全ての組織や臓器のT1およびT2値を連続値として作成することでき,MRIの様々な分野の研究への貢献が期待できる。
