Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
First, the Raman spectra of osteonecrotic bone samples from different patients has been obtained an analyzed, also using statistical approaches. It has been observed that the Raman spectra of osteonecrotic tissue is influenced by the cause of the osteonecrosis, with different results between osteonecrosis caused by alcohol and osteonecrosis caused by steroids. The results have been published on a scientific paper. For the second part of the project, Raman spectroscopy has been successfully used to evaluate the effects of alendronate on the differentiation of osteoclasts from progenitor RAW cells on two different substrates: ortocalcium phosphate and dentine. We also observed that the differentiation induced by RANKL is impaired but not inhibited by the addition of 2ng/mL of alendronate.
