Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The project included a systematic review for the first year and interviews with key stakeholders in both Japan and UK for the second year. The systematic review is well underway. I have developed the protocol and that has been confirmed by the collaborators. The protocol will be submitted for academic publication in the next two weeks. I have progressed with the database searches, collected the evidence and now conducting data analysis, which is progressing well. A statistician/ epidemiologist is support the data analysis and confirms the credibility of the methods used. The results will be ready within the next two months.
I have also done significant preparatory work for the interview phase of the second year, in advance. The UK group has been formalized ( 2 academics in medical ethics and law, 4 Intensive care consultants, 2 academics in palliative care). I have already explored the networks in Japan and two Japanese academics ( ICU and Palliative care) have agreed to support the development of the Japanese site, but identifying key stakeholders for me to interview. Meetings have already taken place to define the areas of exploration during interviews. Frameworks of ACP in both countries have been discussed and now both sides are waiting for the results of the systematic review

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The progress of first year is satisfactory. The systematic review results will be ready within the next few months and significant preparatory work for the second year is already conducted. This will enable a faster pace for the second year.

Causes of Carryover |
I kept the cost lower for the first year, as I was planning to attend an international conference at the beginning of second year of the project and also publish the protocol of the first phase. The money saved, will be used for the international conference in end of May and for the first academic publication of the research project, during June- July 2019.
