Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The prior academic year was dedicated to the interviewing part of the project. The plan was to travel to different cities in Japan and UK to interview key health care professionals with either ACP expertise or ICU expertise, to inform the results of this project.
Due to COVID pandemic, the interviews had to be postponed. However, key findings from the systematic review have been informally discussed with different health care professionals to inform the interview questions guide for the interview process.
A key network of health care experts in the UK have been approached and agreement was achieved to participate in the interview stage of the study.
Some health care professionals in Japan have been also approached, but due to the need for formal translation simultaneously, we agreed to delay for the coming academic year.
Translation process has been arranged for the Japanese branch of the study.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

4: Progress in research has been delayed.

Reason

The face to face interviews were not able to be conducted, due to the COVID pandemic. As the pandemic is still ongoing, different arrangements are being put in place for online interviews.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

1. The systematic review is going to be published this year
2. he interview guide will be tested in both countries and adapted after the pilot phase
3 Both interviews in UK and Japan will need to be conducted via zoom due to COVID pandemic. Arrangements are being put in place for this
4. Interviews will be transcribed and translated ( for the Japanese branch). Data analysis will be conducted using the N_vivo software
5. Synthesis of results of both the systematic review and interview phase will be completed after data analysis
6. A final report with recommendations for the use of ACP in ICU will be produced as the final output of the project.

Causes of Carryover

The interviews could not be conducted in the previous year due to COVID pandemic, hence the amount was saved for the coming academic year. The remaining of the money will be used for translation of interviews, traveling when permitted to different locations for interviews, cost for conference presentation and publishing
