Outline of Final Research Achievements |
As a treatment for chronic constipation in older persons with dementia in a care facility, we compared defecation training based on an educational program and intervention with a rational defecation posture (intervention group) with general care (control group). Data from 30 participants (14 interventions, 16 controls) were analyzed. The weekly mean CSBM increased from baseline 0.53 to 1.58 in 8 weeks in the intervention group but changed from 0.56 to 0.43 in the control group (interaction p <0.001). PAC-QOL, CSS, and NPI-NH showed significant improvement after the intervention.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
