Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Pinch strength is as important as grip strength for fine motor control in activity of daily living and occupation. Thumb and fingers require to work synchronizing in order to provide a stable pinch force exertion. The most common types of pinch are key pinch, tip pinch and palmar pinch. The degree of freedom of thumb, fingers and wrist has make measuring pinch strength remain a challenge. As described in proposal, the main aim is to elucidate the mechanism and biomechanical factors of grip and pinch. Custom made pinch grip gauge and dynamometer were used to measure the pinch and grip. The pinch gauge and dynamometer are width-adjustable. Experiment 1 is conducted to acquire the data as planned.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The custom made equipment took time longer than expectation to complete and received from manufacturer. Planned study 1 was conducted and data analysis is ongoing.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
1. To complete data analysis for study 1. 2. Revise and prepare protocol for study 2 based on the results from study 1.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The plan experiment required two set of experiment tools. Pilot study was conducted with experiment tool (Set A), however the process of re-design and custom made experiment tools take longer time than expectation. Therefore, Experiment tool (Set B) is not yet order and Personnel Expenditure and Remuneration is not utilized in Fiscal year 2018.
