Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In order to verify the dose dependent effects of Rice Bran (RB) supplementation, mice were fed a 5% RB, 10% RB, 20% RB-supplemented AIN-93G basal diet and tap water for 1 week, then 2.0% DSS-containing water for 10 days respectively. During the experimental period, fecal samples from all the mice were collected daily for 16S rRNA gene analysis and CE-TOFMS-based metabolome profiling. 10 days after DSS administration, RB-fed mice suppressed colitis dose-dependently. The abundance of Clostridium spp. was significantly higher in RB-fed mice. Fecal metabolome analysis showed that the amount of the tryptophan metabolite was significantly increased in RB-fed mice as compared to control mice. DSS-induced colitis was suppressed in germ-free mice transplanted with fecal microbiota from RB-fed mice.
