Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Information-centric Internet of things (ICN-IoT) interconnects billions of heterogeneous objects, and it highly differs from today’s Internet due to resource-constrained devices, massive volumes of small exchanged data, and traffic type diversity. Thus, there is a need for lightweight access control (AC) mechanism enforcement, which allows reuse of cached content and prevents unauthorized accesses. In this fiscal year, we proposed a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art AC in the context of information-centric networking (ICN). Meanwhile, we identified some initial attempts towards a service-independent AC mechanism in ICN that can be enforced by any network caching entities efficiently. Currently, we are testing and evaluating this proposed mechanism.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
As mentioned in the summary of research achievements. A comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art for AC in the context of ICN has been proposed, and we have identified some initial attempts towards a service-independent AC mechanism in ICN that can be enforced by any network caching entities efficiently. At the next stage of the research, we are going to develop a lightweight AC enforcement mechanism in ICN for IoT system. We believe that the research results will inspire new interest in research.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In this fiscal year, I will continue the test and evaluation of the proposed service-independent AC mechanism in ICN. Meanwhile, I will also keep on proposing a new lightweight AC enforcement mechanism in ICN for IoT system. The results will be published in international conferences as well as journals especially after each phase. Phase I) A service-independent AC mechanism in ICN (2018.04-2019.07) I-3: Testing and evaluating the mechanism. Phase II) A lightweight AC enforcement mechanism in ICN for IoT system (2019.08-2020.03) II-1: Developing a lightweight AC mechanism in ICN that stands out as best for IoT system. II-2: Security analysis and performance evaluation.
