Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The goal of this project is to apply a unified access control (AC) enforcement mechanism for information-centric Internet of things (ICN-IoT). We will (1) present a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art for AC in the context of information-centric networking (ICN) and then (2) propose a service-independent AC mechanism in ICN that can be enforced by any network caching entities efficiently. Finally, (3) we should implement a lightweight AC mechanism in ICN that stands out as best for IoT system. In this fiscal year, we should complete this project according to the original plan. However, due to some unpredictable situations, we only complete the second step of the original plan. Currently, we are working on a lightweight AC enforcement mechanism for the ICN-IoT system.

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
As mentioned in the summary of research achievements, we should develop a lightweight AC enforcement mechanism in ICN for IoT system in this fiscal year. However, due to some unpredictable situations, the PI is busy with many professional activities this year, including projects, book writing, conference chairs, journal editors. Moreover, building the ICN-IoT system needs more time than I expect. So, this project will be extended one more year. We believe that this project will be completed with high quality this year, and the research results will promote to secure the ICN-IoT system.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In this fiscal year, I will keep working on a lightweight AC enforcement mechanism in ICN for IoT system. The results will be published in international conferences as well as journals, especially after each phase. Phase II) A lightweight AC enforcement mechanism in ICN for IoT system (2020.04-2021.03) II-1: Developing a lightweight AC mechanism in ICN that stands out as best for IoT system. (2020.04-2020.09) II-2: Security analysis and performance evaluation. (2020.10-2020.12) After that, we will summarize our achievements and prepare for publications (2021.01-2021.03)

Causes of Carryover |
This project has been extended one more year to achieve the original target. The sum of the incurring amount used in the second fiscal year and to be used in third fiscal years is the same as the amount in the original usage plan for the second fiscal year. In the next fiscal year, the budget will be used according to the plan and the necessity. If possible, some equipment and conferences will be supported by this budget.
