Outline of Final Research Achievements |
There are may types of brain tumors, and some of them are difficult to distinguish from other disease, so it is often difficult to dianose them using neuroimaging alone. We wanted to see if a single serology test could determine whether a patient had a brain tumor, a glial tumor or not. <method> NMR mode analysis was performed using serum collected from patients with brain tumors including gliomas and non-neoplastic brain diseases. <results> This diagnostic method clearly divided into three groups: gliomas, non-gliomatous brain tumors, and non-neoplastic brain diseases. It was suggested that this diagnostic method may be useful for determining the presence or absence of brain tumors and identifying their types.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
NMR メタボロミクスは液体に含まれる複数の物質を同時かつ網羅的に化学分析する手法であるが、NMR モード解析は、メタボロミクスとは異なり、液体の動的性質を NMR モードという物理量で評価する。このモード解析は、僅か 0.1mL の血清の1回の NMR 実測値から多くの臨床情報を引き出せる点が画期的である。本技術を脳腫瘍に応用すると、脳腫瘍のスクリーニング、早期診断、治療方針の決定、治療効果の判定、予後予測に有用である可能性がある。
