Outline of Final Research Achievements

A disturbance of body size perception has been reported in chronic pain patients. Previous studies suggested that the disturbance is associated with pain perception. Therefore, a method to correct the disturbance is needed. In the present study, we aimed to develop a method to change body perception using virtual reality. The system we developed might change body perception, at least temporarily.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまでに、慢性疼痛患者の痛みを軽減するために、身体サイズ認知の変容を促す手法が検討されてきた。本研究は、バーチャルリアリティを使った新たな身体認知変容システムの可能性を示した。まだ、健常者への検討のみであり、至適な条件に関して検討しなければならない事項はあるが、今後基礎的な検証を進めて新たな介入方法に発展させたい。
