Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本国際共同研究では,年代測定等の研究分野で用いられている最先端の測定技術・ノウハウを活用し,生物学的な線量評価に比べてより迅速かつ高精度に個人の被ばくレベルと被ばく状況(入射方向,線質、部位等)を把握する実用的な線量評価法を、世界に先駆けて開発し社会実装することに取り組んでいる。具体的には、被ばくした人から採取した生体試料についての放射線応答から直接的に人体が受けた被ばくレベルを推定すると共に、生体試料に比べて高感度でバックグランドが低く試料による応答の差異が比較的少ない化学的に安定した素材を複合的に用いて,それらの試料に含まれるラジカル量あるいはその量に相関する信号(電子スピン共鳴吸収ESR、光刺激蛍光OSL等)を測定する。それらのデータを総合的に解析することにより,被ばくの状況と人体各部位が受けた線量を精緻に再現する方法を開発し、実用的なプロトコルを提示する。
本研究は概ね順調に進捗しており、1年目(2018年度)には、若手研究者である研究分担者が相手方(オーストリア国・ザルツブルグ大学の研究室)を訪問し、同グループが有する高性能のラジカル測定技術や先端的な試料処理設備の使用に必要な測定作業の手順を修得した。2年目(2019年度)には、より具体的な研究実施計画を策定し、若手研究者が広島大学の施設で放射線を照射した試料数種を持参して相手方を訪れ、およそ一ヶ月にわたり先方の測定装置・解析技術に基づく共同研究を行った。2020年度以後は新型コロナウィルスの感染拡大の影響で相手方を訪問できず、先方の研究者を招聘することもかなわなかったが、オンラインでのやり取り等を経て、測定解析の結果を複数の共著論文にまとめ、国際学術誌上で発表した。
