魚類多様性の進化ダイナミクス:網羅的大規模分子系統樹からのアプローチ

Research Abstract

本研究では、条鰭類全体の網羅的大規模系統樹を構築することが最終目標である。ただ解析の進め方としては、一気に大規模系統樹を構築するのではなく、まず個別の高次分類群[主として目(もく)]を対象に解析をおこない、それを積み上げていくことで全体像を描き出すという戦略を採用してきた。その結果、個別の高次分類群における研究成果がこれまでに多数得られ、これらの成果が当初の予想以上に豊かに魚類の進化史を描き出すものであることが昨年度までに明らかになった。そこで、今年度の補助金交付申請書を作成する時点で、本年度の研究方針も、まだ多くが未解析である高次分類群の解析を引き続き積み重ねていくこととした。この研究方針に沿って研究を進めた結果、新たにアンコウ目などの系統研究が進展した。さらに複数の目を包含する規模の重要な成果も得られた。その一例は、地球上の淡水魚の種数の65%を占める骨鰾類(コイ目、カラシン目、ナマズ目、デンキウナギ目を含む)に関する成果である。分子系統解析とそれにもとづく分岐年代推定から、このグループの現在の多様性の枠組みがこれまでに考えられていたよりもはるかに古いものであることが明らかになった。また、このグループの祖先は海洋環境に生息していたと推測されるが、淡水域に共通祖先が生き残った時期は、海洋環境が激変した時期と一致することも判明した。骨鰾類は脊椎動物の種多様性の1/8を占める巨大なグループであることから、本研究の成果は、脊椎動物の多様化の歴史を検討する上でも非常に重要なものであると評価できる。最終年度である本年度には、条鰭類全体からこれまでに得られた大量のミトコンドリアゲノムデータをもとに、遺伝子配置変動の系統推定における有用性の検討などもおこなうとともに、今後のさらなる研究展開の方向性についても検討を進めた。
