| Research Abstract |
久山町コホート研究の対象症例を含めた日本人剖検例を用いて、我国の動脈硬化症を中心にした血管病の病理学的特徴を検討し、虚血臓器の転帰を決定する要因として側副血管再生が重要であるが、動脈硬化は局所の病的新生血管形成により促進されることを明らかにした。また欧米の動脈硬化とは質的な相対的相違があることが示唆された。現在、動脈硬化による下肢虚血に対して新規の遺伝子治療を九州大学病院で実施、継続している。
