Research Abstract

本プロジェクトでは、種々の無機ナノチューブ/ナノワイヤーおよび関連したナノ構造物質に関して、それらの物性解析、オンデマンド・ナノエンジニアリング(充填/排出、溶接、質量輸送、精製など)を実現するための、最新'その場'観察技術の有用性を検証してきた。プロジェクトの2年目では、多層カーボンナノチューブに関して、純粋な物、充填された物、ドープされた物について得られた結果を述べる。主な成果は、カーボンナノチューブ内の空洞を通して、アトグラム(10^<-89>g)レベルの質量輸送をオンデマンドで初めて成功したことである。この実験は、STM-TEMホルダーを用いてわずかな電流をカーボンナノチューブに流すことで実現された。
さらに、STM-TEMおよびAFM-TEMホルダーを用いた無機ナノチューブの物性測定に関する先駆的な成果について述べる。ここでは、MgOおよびSiO_2から成る酸化物ナノ温度計が、優れた耐久性を持ち、かつ、究極の絶縁体として機能することを示し、これらが実用材料として有力であることを示す。
