| Research Abstract |
本研究は、実証的な資料研究に十分な注意をはらいながら、密接な英米文化交流の実情をあきらかにすることを目標とする。研究の焦点を明確化するために、両国の文学と文化を代表する作家や現象に当面の調査対象を絞り、それらに通底・あるいは相互関連する問題点を整理し、議論するという方法を採りたい。言うまでもなく、こうした研究の背景には、戦後わが国において、イギリス文化とアメリカ文化を異なるものとして、どちらかと言えばアメリカ文化を近代的で新しいタイプのものとして、軽々に論じ、またそれぞれの専門家にゆだねてきた趨勢を反省し、ありうべき英米文化の包括的研究を模索する意図が込められている。
