Research Abstract

我々は,これまでにc軸配向した六方稠密構造Co合金薄膜が10^7erg/ccを越える巨大垂直磁気異方性を示すことを見出した.本研究では,その発生メカニズムを探るために,膜厚,下地層,組成等を幅広く変化させた試料を作製し,垂直磁気異方性と結晶構造の関係を系統的に調べた.その結果,磁気異方性と軸比c/aの間には非常に強い相関があり,軸比の低下と共に磁気異方性が急増することが明らかになった.この関係は試料の詳細に依らずユニバーサルに成立していた.X線磁気円二色性の測定によれば,軸比c/aの減少とともに垂直及び面内の軌道磁気モーメントの差が増し,このことから格子歪による3d軌道の異方的分布に起因して磁気異方性が増強されるものと推察した.一方,第一原理計算より,軸比の低下と共に垂直/面内の軌道磁気モーメント差が増し,それに伴い磁気異方性が単調に増加することが確かめられた.以上のように,格子の歪が巨大な磁気異方性の発生に関与していることは,実験と理論の両面から確かめられた.しかし,実験では軸比1%の低下により磁気異方性が3倍以上に達するのに対し,理論では高々数十%程度の増加にとどまる.この不一致については,次年度も引き続き検討を継続する予定である.また,磁気異方性の価電子数依存性を調べるため,(Co_<l-x>M_x)80Pt_<20>(M=Cr,Mo,W,Re,Ru,Mn,Cu,Au,Sc,Ti,Ta,Nb,Pd,Hf)の組成に対する磁気異方性の変化を系統的に調べた.その結果,本研究で調べた組成範囲内では,磁気異方性は主に格子歪に強く支配されていることが判った.
