Research Abstract |
The hydrogen solubility, hydrogen permeability and hydrogen embrittlement of group 5 metal (Nb, V, Ta) based hydrogen permeable alloys have been investigated quantitatively. Also, the hydrogen permeability has been studied in view of hydrogen chemical potential. From these results, a concept for alloy design has been proposed in order to satisfy both high hydrogen permeability and strong resistance to hydrogen embrittlement. Following this concept, Nb-W, Nb-Ru and Nb-W-Mo alloys with bcc single solid solution phase have been designed and developed that phases 4~5 time higher hydrogen permeability than currently used Pd-based alloy membrane without showing any hydrogen embrittlement.
