Research Abstract |
A new environmentally-friendly surface finishing process has been developed by combining electrodeposition and heat treatment. By using AlCl_3-ZnCl_2-dimethylsulfone (DMSO_2) molten electrolytes, Al-Zn alloys were obtained. By addition of MnCl_2 to the electrolytes, Al-Zn-Mn alloy deposits with smooth surface were obtained. Codeposition of Mn led to finer grain size and inhibited Zn metal deposition.
