Research Abstract

平成20年度は、イルカの声を受信する水中録音機器を用いることにより、より高密度で長期間にわたる生息場所利用状況の観測ができた(Kimura et al.米音響学会誌,125,547-553,2009)。すなわち、記録された音響信号から摂餌や回遊に関連したソナー音を抽・出し目視観測結果と比較することで、定量的な音響定点観測手法が完成した。A-tagと呼ばれるソナー音録音装置(ML-200AS2,マリンマイクロテクノロジ,埼玉)は、水中で最長1ヶ月の連続運転が可能であり、長期間の昼夜モニタリングが可能であった。一方、小型船にステレオ式曳航型水中マイクロホンを装備し、生息域の両岸および中央部を複数回往復する観測も実施した。これらの調査により、ホットスポット周辺でのイルカの空間分布が1km区間毎の細かい空間精度で明らかになった。本研究で開発された調査手法が国内外で応用され始めた。ヨウスコウカワイルカの次に絶滅が危惧されているカリフォルニア湾のコガシラネズミイルカ(メキシコ)の探索に本装置を投入された(Nature 456,431-431に紹介記事)。長崎県の大村湾に生息する日本で最小のスナメリ個体群では、東シナ海への出口である針尾瀬戸における季節的・日周期的な変動が定点型システムで確認された。さらに、本研究の曳航型システムがインドのガンジスカワイルカに適用され、微細な空間分布構造が明らかになった。独立した個体群としてはもっとも小さく絶滅が危惧されるアラスカのクック湾におけるシロイルカへの海中工事雑音影響評価の予備実験にも本手法が適用された。
