Research Abstract |
The goal of my research project was mainly transcription and compilation of the original manuscripts for System of Modern Roman Law, one of the most important textbooks on European civil law, written by the influential German historical jurist, Friedrich Carl von Savigny (1779-1861). The important parts of the manuscripts for the first volume of this book were deciphered, transcribed and compiled and basic historical documents for various areas of law were obtained. The documents are particularly useful for understanding Japanese law because of its extensive German law roots.
